"Got God"?
You’ve seen those pictures of celebrities styling a white mustache with the headline stating, "Got Milk"? Well, my question to you is, "Got God"?
What is the prevailing need you have today?
1.) Out of work? Overworked? Underpaid?
2.) Investments dwindled? Losing your home? You’re thinking…what investments…can’t even keep up with just the basics!
3.) Got a new diagnosis? Existing under that old diagnosis? Debilitating pain?
4.) Unsatisfying longings due to singleness? Empty marriage relationship? Loneliness created by widowhood?
5.) Overwhelmed by fear? Stuck in grief? Bursting with anger?
6.) Discouraged by failure? Hiding in shame? Needing a savior?
We all have a need and most of us have many needs. And we all have God, who calls Himself, "I AM".
Picture Exodus chapter three. There you see Moses at Mt. Horeb standing in front of the burning bush (never consumed by the fire). God speaks out stating that He will deliver the Israelites from Egypt and wants Moses to lead the people out of slavery and into the land of milk and honey. Moses doubts God’s choice in this grand plan and begins to question the Lord. Funny how God isn’t bothered by how inept we may think we are. The Lord just simply reveals His name (which is His nature) and tells Moses to tell the people that "I AM" sent him. "I AM" is the Eternal One, The One who has always existed. And He lets each of us know that, "I AM" is everything you need.
Now re-read those needs and place "I AM" into that need of yours. Call on the name of Jesus for each of your situations.
1.) "I AM" your provider… protector… portion.
2.) "I AM" your strongtower… shadow… shepherd.
3.) "I AM" your promise… prize… peace.
4.) "I AM" your high priest… hope… husband.
5.) "I AM" your bread… beloved… breath.
6.) "I Am" your vision… validation… victory.
You may recognize the "Got Milk" commercial from those celebrities by the mark of milk on their upper lip… But, isn’t it also possible that the world can recognize the mark of God in our lives by how we walk in faith when these troubles come into our lives? Don’t we "Got God?"
Here is a powerful statement from Oswald Chambers:
"To have faith test a man for all he is worth. He has to stand in the common- sense universe in the midst of things which conflict with his faith, and place his confidence in the Word, whose character is revealed in Jesus Christ. Faith must be tried or it is not faith; faith is not mathematics, nor reason. Scriptural faith is not to be illustrated by the faith we exhibit in our common-sense life; it is trust in the character of One we have never seen, in the integrity of Jesus Christ, and it must be tried."
Lord, help us to invite You into our personal needs, whatever those needs are. There are times when we are so overwhelmed by them that we don’t even know how to pray. Thank you for speaking truth into our doubts and encouraging us to see only you and not just our problems. We need Your Holy Spirit to remind us (sometimes over and over and over again) to call upon Your name, then rest in the truth of Your promises. We want You to be the song of our hearts and our joy even in our stressful, lonely times. Transform us from the inside out to be women of praise and may the world see how we live out our faith in the trust we have. Amen.
God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM"; and He said, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, "I AM has sent me to you." - Exodus 3:14
A Heart That Belongs To You
Lord, silence these tiresome wailings from within,
which seem to erupt out of a shrouded recess
in what I may think is only a hollow sinkhole…
but in truth, it is a heart that belongs to You—
Oh, help me to walk in that truth I have in You.
Stifle these familiar and mocking thoughts,
which seem to echo back from a lost cavern
in what I may think is bottomless and comfortless…
yet in truth, I know it is a heart that belongs to You—
Oh, help me to walk in that hope I have in You.
Take this unseen, uninvited and voiceless grief,
which seems to cleave and carve out an ongoing gulf
in what has kept me secluded and lonely…
because in truth, I know my heart belongs to You—
Oh, help me to walk in that joy found in You.
And Lord, satisfy the longings I live with,
which seem to bellow a prison of lies
through discontentment in which has limited and
chained me in bondage - for today the truth is…
that this heart can be, and is, set free in You.
May it be our desire that we be women who live in the present and are aware of the world around us. May we take notice of the blessings God gifts to each of us, and always long to hear His whispers. Shall we also pray with a more purposeful focus on God’s will? And as we stay connected in our relationship with Christ, we will become more thankful followers. Let us commit to doing this together! Close your eyes…Open your heart, let God’s Spirit empower you today.
