Prayer Closet

                                                                           Prayer Closet

Before the morning ritual of getting ready for the day, when a man or woman looks at their reflection in the mirror, it is not always a pleasant or easy undertaking. An even more momentous work is the inward ascent into the depths of our spirit, allowing God’s own Holy Spirit the task of searching the thoughts and attitudes of our hearts.

God has a particular interest in this work…. you see, you and I are one of His kids.

When I travel within that inward chamber, into the Holy of Holies and approach the Eternal Living God, does any part of me stand smug with knowledge of the “good works” and moral performances I’ve kept?  I wonder how many of us might do the same.  Have we measured our righteousness with the standard of comparison to others, instead of aligning it to His holiness?  I can only fall to my knees and weep over the insanity of such pride.  Am I willing to expose my weaknesses, uncover the naked and vulnerable desires of my flesh in order to allow His grace to saturate, soften, and supply my will’s direction to make it His?

Prayer Closet

Here I am,

impoverished

with child-like need

disrobed from my familiar deceiving

and pious disguises

I enter in…

to stand bare of soul

before Your Holy Presence.

Dismantle that stony hedge

suffocating my heart

having groped within

the unexplored and concealed

for far too long…

give to me Your desire

and make this offered heart

pliable unto

my  Master’s care.

   Simple Blessings

“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:6

About the author

All my life God has been preparing me for “such a time as this”. He has placed a calling on my life arranging for me to be a minister of His grace and to share the great hope of His redeeming love. God doesn’t always ask us to understand the difficult road - but He does ask that we will not choose to be ruled by our emotions and instead, stand in faith. Fellowship, praise, and trust are the signs of a maturing Christian as we become the “pleasing gifts” we give to the Lord! Blessings, Kerry
